AUBURN, Ala. - Martin Moates, a farmer, cattleman and long-time agribusiness leader in the Wiregrass area, will be among three distinguished Alabama agricultural leaders inducted into the AU Ag Alumni Hall of Honor during ceremonies at Auburn on Feb. 23. Joining Moates will be Ben Hagler, long-time extension horticulturist, and E.H. Ham Wilson, former executive director of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association and recently retired executive director of governmental relations for Auburn University.
Since its inception in 1985, 24 distinguished Alabama agricultural leaders have been inducted into the Hall of Honor. Recent inductees include Goodwin Myrick, president of the Alabama Farmers Federation; Dennis Rouse, former Dean of the AU's College of Agriculture and director of the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station; and Tennessee Valley farmer Dennis Bragg. Each year three ag leaders are selected from dozens of nominees by the executive committee of the AU Ag Alumni Association. Plaques containing a picture and brief biographical description of each member of the Hall of Honor are displayed in Comer Hall on the AU campus.
This year's initiates will be honored at a reception and dinner set to begin at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, in the AU Hotel and Conference Center. Those wishing to attend the 1993 annual banquet and help in honoring this year's inductees may purchase tickets for $20 each by contacting Bill Alverson, Ag Alumni Association, 107 Comer Hall, Auburn University, AL 36849.
