AUBURN, Ala. - Wilmer A. (Bill) Rogers, professor of Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures at Auburn University, has been named interim head of the Department following the retirement of the current department head, Wayne Shell.
Rogers, a native of Mississippi, joined the Auburn faculty in 1964. He has been conducting research through the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station in the area of fish diseases and also teaches numerous courses in the Department for Auburn's College of Agriculture. Rogers received his bachelor's degree in wildlife biology from the University of Southern Mississippi and his master's and doctorate degrees in fish management from Auburn.
For the past 27 years, Rogers has served as director of the Southeastern Cooperative Fish Disease Project. In this capacity, he has worked closely with southeastern game and fish agencies and fisheries chiefs in the various southeastern states. In addition, he has diagnosed and recommended treatment for diseased fish and worked with fish farmers throughout the United States regarding diseases and fish production, weed control and other fisheries-related topics.
Before coming to Auburn, Rogers served as a biologist with the Alabama Department of Conservation and later as a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
