Agriculture, AAES Honor Top Faculty, Staff
Four outstanding faculty members from Auburn University’s College of Agriculture have earned the top awards for teaching, advising and research for 2005 from the college and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station.
In a program earlier this month at the just-completed Alfa Pavilion at AU’s Ag Heritage Park, Agriculture Dean and AAES Director Richard Guthrie presented Amy Wright, assistant professor of horticulture, the 2005 Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence and horticulture professor Dave Williams the Dean’s Award for Advising Excellence.
On the research front, the award at the assistant-professor level went to entomologist Henry Fadamiro, whose research focuses on insect behavior and integrated pest management, while Jorge Mosjidis, a plant breeder and geneticist in the college’s Department of Agronomy and Soils, merited the professor-level research award for 2005. Through his plant breeding program, Mosjidis has released eight cultivars of forage legumes.
Each award winner received a plaque and $2,000 in cash.
Also during the program, staff and administrative/professional employees recognized for their exceptional performance during the year and receiving $500 cash awards included Ray DeLamar, electronics technician and head of AAES Research Instrumentation, and Curtis Morgan, a butcher at the AU Meats Lab, Outstanding Technical Staff; Carole Hodge, office administrator in the Department of Animal Sciences, Outstanding Administrative Staff; and agronomy and soils administrative assistant Linda Bankston, E.V. Smith Research Center Superintendent Bobby Durbin and animal sciences research associate Anne Wiley, Outstanding Administrative Professionals.
