An ornamental horticulture field day featuring information for landscapers, nursery operators and others interested in the latest results of ornamental plant research is set for Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Ornamental Horticulture Research Center in Mobile.
Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m., with the formal program getting under way at 8:45. Presentations and tours will provide information on new products for better propagation and weed control in nurseries as well as research updates on Rhizoctonia aerial blight, the use of glyphosate herbicide on woody ornamentals and the use of composted poultry litter as a soil media amendment.
The latest in insect and disease control and information on growing lotus in Alabama are also on the program.
Participants will have time to hear each presentation. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.
The field day, which is co-sponsored by the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, is open to all persons regardless of gender, race, religion or national origin. Alabama Pesticide Certification points will be earned by attendees with a license.
