Four Auburn University College of Agriculture faculty members have earned top awards from the college and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station in recognition of their outstanding efforts in teaching, advising and research.
In a year-end program, Richard Guthrie, who is dean of the college and director of the AAES, presented the 2008 Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence to agronomy and soils professor David Weaver and the 2008 Dean’s Award for Advising Excellence to Bill Hardy, a professor in the agricultural economics and rural sociology department and former associate dean for the college.
On the research front, the Senior Researcher Award went to Jacek Wower, animal sciences professor of biochemistry and molecular biology. Puneet Srivastava, associate professor in biosystems engineering whose work focuses on water quality, merited the 2008 Junior Researcher Award.
A new awards category was established in 2008 to recognize faculty members who have excelled in obtaining research dollars through extramural grants and contracts. Recipients of the first-ever Grantsmanship Awards were Bill Daniels and Allen Davis, associate professors in fisheries and allied aquacultures; agronomy and soils professor David Bransby; and Bill Moar, entomology professor.
Also during the awards program, five outstanding College of Ag and AAES staff and administrative/professional employees were honored as the 2008 Employees of the Year. The five were John Olive, director of the AAES Ornamental Horticulture Research Center in Mobile; entomology and plant pathology accountant Mary Hahn; biosystems engineering electronics technician Bobby Epling; Karl Hayden, a research associate in fisheries and allied aquacultures; and Glen Davis, construction and heavy machine operator in the Agricultural Land and Resource Management office.
Each faculty and employee honoree took home a plaque and a cash award.
