The parking lot at the intersection of Samford Avenue and South College Street in Auburn will go green in the truest sense of the word Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18, when the Auburn University Campus Club hosts its eighth annual A-Day Weekend Plant Sale.
This year’s sale will offer extended hours — 9 a.m. till dark April 17 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 18 — and the largest selection of plants ever, because the Auburn chapter of PLANET, a student organization for landscape horticulture majors, is merging its annual plant sale with the Campus Club’s A-Day extravaganza.
Shoppers at the 2009 sale will have hundreds of bedding plants, shrubs, groundcovers, roses, climbing vines, trees, herb and vegetable plants and blueberry and blackberry plants from which to choose. Bags of Auburn-developed ’MaterDirt for tomatoes and ’TuniaPeat, a custom potting medium for bedding plants that's made with spent tea leaves from Milo's Tea, also will be available.
As always, the two-day sale is first come, first served. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
All proceeds go toward an endowment that funds the Campus Club’s First Ladies Scholarships in Horticulture program, which annually awards deserving horticulture students at Auburn $1,000 scholarships, each named in honor of a past Auburn University first lady.
For more information on the plant sale, contact Mary Lou Matthews at 821-2161 or mandml@att.net.
