Jordan-Hare Stadium won’t be the only happening spot on the Auburn campus over the 2011 A-Day Weekend April 15-16. The parking lot at the intersection of Samford Avenue and South College Street will be rocking, too, with the seventh annual A-Day Weekend Plant Sale, co-hosted by the Auburn University Campus Club and the Auburn chapter of PLANET.
As always, this year’s plant sale will feature hundreds upon hundreds of top-quality plants—annuals, perennials, shrubs, groundcovers, trees, herbs, vegetables and more—as well as sod, a custom potting medium for bedding plants and bags of the ever-popular, Auburn-developed ’Mater Dirt. Shoppers also can get free, expert advice from Auburn Department of Horticulture faculty, who turn out in full force for the event.
Sale hours will be from 9 a.m. till dark Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Sales will be first come, first served, and cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
Proceeds from the plant sale go toward an endowment that funds the Campus Club’s First Ladies Scholarships in Horticulture program as well as to PLANET. The Campus Club’s scholarship program annually awards $1,000 scholarships, each named in honor of a past Auburn University first lady, to deserving horticulture students at Auburn. For more on the sale, contact Mary Lou Matthews at 821-2161 or mandml@att.net.
