The Market at Ag Heritage Park Opens 2013 Season May 9

AUBURN, Ala.—The Market at Ag Heritage Park, located on the Auburn University campus at the corner of Lem Morrison and Donahue drives, will open its 2013 season Thursday, May 9, and will run every Thursday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. through Aug. 15.

“The Market is opening earlier this year at the request of several of our vendors and shoppers,” Laura Herring, Market manager, said. “Shoppers should be aware that the selection may be limited the first couple of weeks, but that will change as the growing season progresses.”

The open-air farmers market, established in 2005, is hosted by the College of Agriculture at Auburn and features fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as a number of other local products, including honey, goat cheese, ornamental plants and more.

The entrance to The Market is on Donahue Drive, between the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena and the Alabama Farmers Pavilion at Ag Heritage Park. The Market is open to the public and is held rain or shine, unless severe weather threatens the safety of vendors and customers.

Throughout the season, The Market also will feature educational displays, demonstrations, entertainment and other special activities, including a new “kids’ corner” that will be hosted by Alabama Cooperative Extension System Master Gardeners and 4-H personnel and will offer short lessons and fun art and science activities for kids of all ages to learn about nature, gardening, the environment, nutrition and more.

And at the May 9 Market grand opening, the Auburn Pharmaceutical Care Center will be offering Healthy Tiger screenings inside the Ham Wilson arena from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Schedule an appointment online.
