Find out about every scholarship awarded in your area the previous year (your high school counselor should have a list).
Search the Internet for scholarships.
- Look at every link and go through its sign-up process, and search that site’s database for scholarships.
- If the site asks for information on your parents’ social activities (i.e., club involvement, unions, volunteerism) fill out this information completely. Hint: These scholarships usually offer high dollar amounts.
- Make a list of scholarships that you qualify for and send off immediately for their applications. Make note of their deadlines and requirements (i.e. GPA, class standing, extracurricular activities, essays). Hint: If an essay is required, the scholarship usually has fewer applicants.
- Compile a list of your extracurricular activities such as:
— Clubs and teams
— Offices held
— Volunteer activities
— Conferences, meetings, or trips where you have represented your school, club, or church
—Titles that you have received (Mr. FFA, Ms. Beta, etc.)
- Make a list of every award that you have received since the 9th grade (i.e. All A’s, Star Greenhand, 1st Place Bobsledder).
- Educate yourself on proper grammar, punctuation, and word usage.
