Auburn researchers used a live/dead cell kit to assess the viability of Flavobacterium columnare in biofilm and photographed the results using an optical imaging technique known as confocal microscopy. In the image, live cells are stained green and dead cells are red. Extracellular polymeric substances are blue with white.
